Surrey ACF Military Equitation Competition

Surrey ACF Battalion PWRR would like to recognise and congratulate Cadet Elyse Marr, Royal Alexandra & Albert Detachment (RAAS), who represented Surrey ACF Battalion at the 2023 Military Equitation Competition on Sunday 19th November held at the Light Cavalry, HAC Stables in Windsor Great Park.

The aim of the event is to provide an introduction to military equitation and to assess how a rider adapts to riding an unfamiliar horse, how competently they ride and their ability to deal with any horse issues that may arise.

After receiving instruction on and a short demonstration of military riding, Cadet Marr completed a 20 minute routine under the instruction of the senior judge, John Cockburn (former Troop Captain, King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery), where she was assessed in a number of areas, including her riding position and affinity with the horse.

Cadet Marr was paired with the mischievous Martha, a 16-hand operational Light Cavalry HAC horse. They both performed wonderfully together placing 6th and being awarded a competitors rosette.

A special mention goes to Cadet Anabel Cooper, RAAS Detachment, who accompanied Cadet Marr to the competition and was on hand to provide support and advice.

And a special thank you to Sergeant Simpson and Sergeant Newsome who were the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) that made this possible.
