Meet our new Head of Estates

This month, we warmly welcomed our new Head of Estates, Kevin Brunskill, to the team. Find out more about him below: 

1. What is your background?

I spent my childhood in Durham until joining the Army in 1994, my next 26 years was with an Infantry Battalion (First Fusiliers). I completed a number of operational tours in various roles including, Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, with a brief stint in Ukraine in 2017. During this period in the military I was involved in numerous roles from Light-role Infantry to Armoured Infantry, operating Warrior armoured personnel carriers, I was also part of a Jungle trained Battalion for a two year period. I was deployed across Kenya, Brunei and Belize as a Jungle Warfare Instructor teaching all aspects of jungle warfare.

I was involved within the training environment as an instructor at the Infantry Training Battalion as a Section Commander, and also held an instructor role at the Royal Military College Sandhurst..

I was eventually promoted to Regimental Sergeant Major of First Fusiliers in 2016 and gained a late entry Commission in 2018 and subsequently promoted to Captain. My final role within the Army was Regimental Career Management Officer looking after the careers of over 1100 armoured infantry soldiers.

Post Military service I joined a large Multi-Academy Trust as a Regional Operations and Projects Manager maintaining 9 secondary schools across the South East. My final position before joining SERFCA was as Head of Estate and Facilities in an independent education Trust in West London looking after a number of sites.

2. What are your Hobbies and Interests outside of work?

I like to be in the countryside and find most outdoor activity enjoyable, mountain biking is one area that I wish to do more of.

I also enjoy cricket and have started a little bit of gardening.

3. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t worry about the things outside of your control, focus your efforts into what is possible.

4. Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?

I am planning to travel the world twice on retirement.

SERFCA is responsible for the upkeep of 30 Army Reserve Centre’s, 7 Careers Offices and University Officer Training Units (which are tri-service), 275 Cadet Centres including 58 Joint Cadet Centres and 7 Cadet Training Centres, all on behalf of the MOD. Along with our own estate Jersey Camp on the Isle of Wight.
