A Moment in History for the Royal County of Berkshire Army Cadet Force

On 2nd March 2026 the Cadet Executive Officer the Royal County of Berkshire Army Cadet Force, Major (Retired) Eamonn Charles Coogan MBE was visited by the daughter (Mrs Elisabeth Greeves) of Colonel Francis W Stanbrook MBE MC a former Commandant of the Royal County, who wished to present the County with her late father’s photograph collection.

In June 2023, Mrs Elisabeth Greeves contacted Berkshire ACF as she had come across several boxes of slides of Berkshire ACF activities from the 1970s and possibly 1980s whilst clearing her family home. Her late father, Col Francis W. Stanbrook, MBE, MC was active in the ACF, mostly in Newbury and Reading, and was also County Commandant of Berkshire between 1973 and 1979. She delivered the slides to the CEO on 3rd March 2026.

Lieutenant Francis William Seymour Stanbrook (249251), The Royal Berkshire Regiment (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) (Bradfield, Berks) was awarded The Military Cross on 20th Nov 1944 at Mawlu by Lt-Gen Sir Oliver Leese, Commander-in-Chief Allied Land Forces South East Asia, and American Lt-Gen Daniel Sultan, in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Burma.

He received his MBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours 1965 and after he resigned his Commission on 31st March 1980, he was granted the Honorary Rank of Colonel.
