South East Employers Visit RAF Brize Norton

On 15th June 2o23 an Employer Engagement event for the South East region was held at RAF Brize Norton.  The Squadrons involved were 501, 622, 2624, 4624, 4626, 7644 from the South east -; supported by 3 Mobile Catering Squadron and 504.

The aim of the event was to the benefits employees can bring to their organisations by joining the Reserves.

The team set out to deliver an informative day to the employers, informing them of the role the Reserve plays in supporting Defence. They also emphasised the skills and competencies Reservists gain from  fulfilling their roles and how that can be transferred back to civilian working environment. There was also a number stands on display by the RAF and Royal Auxiliary Air Force with details of each role they offer.

Over 50 employers arrived and after being provided with various briefs, which included Air Cdre Gavin Hellard, Dpty Comdt General, RAux AF and Gp Capt Lane (Retd) COS SERFCA,  they visited the stands.  These included the firing range where they could actually experience the use of the rifle and a tour of the back a C130 rear crew trainer, which included a medical and movements display. They also visited 2 Aircraft (A400 M and C17) and engineering stands.  The guests were also exposed to field cooking, provided by 3 Mobile Catering Squadron and 504 Sqn, which again went down extremely well.

The event was supported by the attendance of Rt Hon Dr Andrew Murrison (Minister for Defence Personnel, Veterans and Service Families), who was suitably impressed with the professional skills and positive attitude of all the Reserves involved.  He also mentioned how the support from the employer was very much appreciated.  The weather was extremely kind to us and the remarks from employers were well received, such as:

“Thank you and all those involved in the employers day, not only did I have a lot of fun, but now feel even more informed and appreciative of the work you do for our country.”

“We were very impressed by the level of enthusiasm, professionalism and commitment demonstrated by all roles and ranks.”

An excellent day was had by all and it gave the Reserves the opportunity just to show the skills and competencies that are gained when joining the RAux AF, which can then be taken back the civilian environment.  The preparation for the day was carried out by over 70 Reserves (FTRS/PTVR) from all the Sqns listed, but also it is only appropriate to mention and provide thanks to the great support offered by RAF Brize Norton, which assisted in making the day so successful.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same.
