AS1 Gabriel Baluyut, 4626 Squadron, RAuxAF
In my civilian capacity, I work as a Physician Associate (PA) and a Clinical Veteran Lead. As a PA, my role primarily involves working within General Practice, conducting patient consultations, managing acute and chronic conditions, and supporting preventative care services under the supervision of a GP. While I am currently seeking a new PA job, I recently completed a Humanitarian Medicine course and have since been actively involved in a humanitarian project based in Blackpool. This initiative supports asylum seekers and refugees, and I have been assisting a leading doctor in delivering medical aid and health education to this vulnerable population.
In the Royal Air Force Reserves, I serve as a Medic. This role is involved in providing pre-hospital emergency care in both domestic and deployed environments, supporting clinical operations during exercises and operations, and being prepared for emergency response in diverse settings. I am still in the process of completing the full spectrum of training required for my role to ensure I’ll be fully deployable and operationally effective, with the hope of supporting future RAF missions both in the UK and overseas.
I attested in January 2023 and successfully completed Phase One training at RAF Halton in September 2023. I joined at the same time as my sister, Princess Baluyut, who entered the Regular RAF as an Avionics Technician. It was special going through the process with her.
My decision to join the Reserves was driven by a desire to gain specialist training and practical experience in emergency and trauma medicine—skills that go beyond what is typically encountered in civilian clinical settings. I am particularly interested in supporting future RAF deployments, whether through different operations, missions, mass casualty scenarios, or aeromedical evacuation roles.
Additionally, it was a privilege to be selected to represent the RAF in Volleyball at both the Inters and Crowns Championships this year. I value the camaraderie, teamwork, and physical challenges that sport in the RAF offers. Overall, the Reserves have equipped me with invaluable skills and experiences that complement and extend beyond my civilian career.
