Opening of Cowley Joint Cadet Centre

The official opening was conducted by the Lord Lieutenant of Oxford, Mrs Marjorie Glasgow BEM. It was also great to have Anneliese Dodds MP (MP for Oxford East) and the Lord Mayor of Oxford (Cllr Louise Upton) as part of the official opening. This is a great facility for young people to have the opportunity to learn important life skills through the Cadet Force’s training, Comradeship, Teamwork and Self-discipline, whilst learning to become valuable members of society. None of this would be possible without the effective oversight, patience, dedication and leadership of all Cadet Force Adult Instructors

Blackbird Leys Detachment Oxfordshire Army Cadet Force, 2210 (Cowley) Squadron Air Training Corps and 150 (City of Oxford) Squadron Air Training Corps will share the Joint Cadet Centre. 2210 (Cowley) Sqn had the privilege of sharing the Blackbird Leys ACF Detachment building during the refurbishment and their heartfelt thanks go to the ACF for hosting them during this time. The Joint Cadet Centre has had substantive refurbishment including;

  • Reconfiguration of internal partitions to better utilise existing space.
  • Works to Mechanical and Electrical Services.
  • New sanitary fittings
  • General decoration of the JCC, External and Internal to both building.

Our thanks to the Army HQ Reserve Estate Optimisation (REO) Team, HQ RAF Air Cadets and South East Reserve Force’s and Cadets’ Association who funded this refurbishment at a cost of approx. £178,000. In addition, a special thank you to the SERFCA obtained project design architects, Harrington Designs, and the building developer, Oak Services Ltd, who worked tirelessly to achieve another outstanding refurbishment for the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV) and Cadets.

SERFCA is responsible for the upkeep of 30 Army Reserve Centre’s, 7 Careers Offices and University Officer Training Units (which are tri-service), 275 Cadet Centres including 58 Joint Cadet Centres and 7 Cadet Training Centres, all on behalf of the MOD. Along with our own estate Jersey Camp on the Isle of Wight.
