“I am a RAF Reservist with 4624 Squadron, while my daughter, Caitlyn Honeyman, who joined the RAF as a regular at the age of 16, is currently undertaking her Phase 2 training at RAF Worthy Down as a Chef. While our roles and service commitments differ, we have both been incredibly fortunate to be going through Basic and Phase 2 training at the same time – a rare and deeply meaningful experience for us both.
Caitlyn graduated from Basic Training at RAF Halton on 19 November 2025, just two days after her 17th birthday. Being able to attend her graduation was a moment of immense pride, not only as a parent, but as a fellow member of the RAF who understands the commitment, discipline and resilience required to reach that milestone.
Just a few months later, the roles were reversed. On 22 March 2026, Caitlyn was able to attend my Phase 2 training from Basic Movements Training at RAF Brize Norton. Sharing that moment, with her supporting me as I had supported her, was incredibly special and something neither of us will ever forget.

Caitlyn is now approaching the next major step in her own journey, with her Phase 2 graduation at Worthy Down on 15 May 2026. Watching her grow in confidence and professionalism throughout her training has been inspiring, and it has reinforced just how much respect I have for those choosing to serve, regardless of age or role.
What makes this experience even more meaningful is the family legacy behind it. I am fourth‑generation serving, and Caitlyn now proudly represents the fifth generation of our family to serve. To see that tradition continue (and to share this chapter of service together) is something I hold with enormous pride and respect.
Serving at the same time has strengthened our bond and given us a shared understanding of the challenges and rewards that come with RAF life. It has also highlighted the values that run through the Service: commitment, teamwork, resilience and mutual respect – values that transcend generations.
We are both incredibly proud to serve, grateful for the opportunities we’ve been given, and honoured to be contributing to the RAF together.”
