CRHQ AGC Exercise Bantam’s Gold 2024

Central Reserve Headquarters Adjutant General’s Corps (CRHQ AGC) held their annual Multi Activity week between Monday 05th to Friday 09th August 2024.  The aim was to provide members of CRHQ AGC, with an environment that allows the opportunity to develop leadership skills and the qualities necessary to enhance performance, both in barracks and on operations. This consisted of 18 Personnel from across the unit of mixed Cap Badges, also including permanent staff from the CRHQ.

Day one consisted of Hill walking, starting at Tyneham Village just outside Lulworth in Dorset.  The walk was approximately 18 km starting with short trek to the coastline and then following the coastal trail through Lulworth Cove, Durdle door, all the way to Osmington, just outside Weymouth. The weather was slightly overcast which meant it wasn’t too warm at the beginning of the day and it gave everyone a chance to admire the gorgeous views along the way.  As the day progressed it became steadily hotter so once camp was set up, some sustenance provided by the way of a BBQ and some liquid refreshment was in dire need! Swiftly followed by an early night by all.

Day two started with torrential rain which was completely unexpected. Moral soon picked up once a hot coffee and Bacon Bap was enjoyed by all. Due to the wet conditions the packing away of camp was delayed until after the walk to allow the tents to dry out.  At 9am the walk got underway.  The route was slightly shorter at just over 6km finishing in the centre of Weymouth. After a brief lunch the party returned to Osmington to pack the camp away and return to Worthy Down Camp.

Day three was spent at The Army Inshore Sailing Centre at Thorney Island.  The day was split in to two parts.  In the morning most of the group tried their hand at Wind Surfing which was a lot harder than it looks. Especially due to the strong winds that day. But by the end of the session everyone involved was managing to surf.  In the afternoon it was Stand Up Paddle Boarding which was a lot less strenuous, and everyone took to it with relative ease.  The Instruction from the Thorny Island staff was outstanding.

Day four was a day of Clay Pigeon Shooting at Bramley Ranges.  Everyone was split down into groups of three and then taken away by instructors.  All of which were part of the Army Shooting Team.  Each group moved around ten different traps, each very different to the last.  Firing at clays coming from every direction imaginable.  Everyone fired at least 100 shots throughout the day.  It was a brilliant day enjoyed by all involved even though there were quite a few sore shoulders the next day.

The week was a great success thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.  I would like to thank South East Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association for their financial support and making the event possible.
