Cosham Army Reserve Centre Opening

On Wednesday 4th February, our team was delighted to attend the official opening of Cosham Army Reserve Centre following an extensive refurbishment. The Centre is home to C Company, 4th Battalion Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (PWRR), 129 Medical Squadron, 243 Multi-Role Medical Regiment, and Cadets from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force, all of whom will benefit from the improved facilities.

The Army Reserve Centre is understood to have been constructed in the post-Second World War period, with records indicating a build date around 1947. Since its construction, responsibility for the site and its associated infrastructure has been held by the Territorial Auxiliary and Volunteer Reserve Association (TAVRA), now known as the South East Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (SE RFCA). The recent refurbishment represents an important investment in the long-term future of this historic site.

The project focused on improving the building’s resilience, energy efficiency, safety and overall usability. Key works included the replacement of the leaking slate roof with a modern composite roof system, upgraded rainwater goods suitable for the coastal environment, and new aluminium entrance and fire exit doors to enhance security, thermal performance and appearance. Internally, improvements included modern LED lighting, upgraded heating systems, additional electrical provision, a new floating gym floor with anti-slip finish and a fully reconstructed entrance lobby designed to provide a more welcoming and functional reception area. Electrical infrastructure was also upgraded across the main building and adjacent outbuildings, alongside comprehensive redecoration of the main hall.

The refurbishment was delivered by a professional project team led by Harrington Design Architects Ltd as Architect and Contract Administrator, supported by GB Associates, McCarthy Bainbridge Ltd, WSP Ltd, MacConvilles Ltd and SALUS Ltd. The works were completed by principal contractor Westmade Building Contractors Ltd. Together, the team has helped ensure Cosham Army Reserve Centre is well-equipped to support its military units and cadets for many years to come.
