Business Breakfast at Royal Naval Air Station

South East RFCA Employer Recognition Scheme award holders were invited to attend a business breakfast ‘across the border’ hosted by our colleagues from Wessex RFCA, 6 Regiment Army Air Corps and Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton (HMS Heron).

The event gave the guests the opportunity to do some networking before sitting down to breakfast in the Wardroom of HMS Heron. Following breakfast, the guests were briefed by the commanding officer of 6 Regt AAC, Lieutenant Colonel Alice Archer and a serving Reservist who spoke about his career with the Army Reserve, highlighting what he gets out of being in the Reserves and what his employer gains from his experiences.

Before moving across to the hanger to get ‘up close and personal’ with a Hellcat helicopter and briefings from the aircrew, the guests were able to witness a special event with the presentation of a Volunteer Reserve Service Medal to Warrant Office Class 2 Johnathan Old, 6 Regiment Army Air Corps by his commanding officer, Lt Col Archer.

WO2 Old joined the Army in 1987, enlisting in the Royal Corps of Transport. He deployed to Northern Ireland on Operation BANNER in 1990 and was awarded the General Service Medal.
During his career, he has seen service in Iraq, Yugoslavia and Kosovo. Whilst assigned to 7 Regiment Royal Logistics Corps he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. WO2 Old concluded his Regular service in 2013 and became a full time Reservist which culminated to him moving to 6 Regt AAC and becoming the Recruit Mentoring Support Officer of 679 Squadron until 2021. He then became the Civilian Engagement Warrant Officer.
